I used to be a very strict paleo person..well the hubs and I were, mainly for my digestion, until I started learning more about it AND all the amazing results I had from eating that way! Alot of people would ask ‘oh do you just eat like all meat all day??’ …uh no..that is not at all what it is! You focus on lean meats, Non-Starchy Veggies, Few Starchy Veggies, Berries and Nuts..well AND healthy fats (coconut oil, avocado etc). Dairy is a grey area..some people say it is OK and some don’t. My personal thought is that if it doesn’t bother you …go ahead and eat it! I prefer to stick with grassfed cheeses though if I am gonna eat them. So that is a very quick and dirty explanation of what paleo is.
When I started doing Paleo strictly it was when I was just starting to get into running. My body was acustomed to eating a certain way and loved it! It is really hard to say ‘this is exactly what you should eat for a run’ because honestly…everyone is different…some people NEED more carb foods like grains, others need more carbs like fruit carbs not grain carbs.
Either way you NEED some kind of nutrition to get through a good long run or else you will BONK and not have a good run! My body needs to have easily digestible proteins and carbs before I go for a long run…so usually I like to do a Shakeology Shake and mix banana with it..this gives me potassium, carbs, proteins & lots of vitamins to really get me going!!!
Now I am definitely NOT an expert but the most important thing for you to do is experiment with different foods to see what YOUR body needs to work the best. I have experimented with Grains, Nuts, Fruits, Proteins etc and honestly everyone is different…if you need help with this message me and lets chat!
